Protecting Rights, Empowering Communities, Holding Power Accountable
The Human Rights Department is the Ministry’s lead actor on human rights protection, promotion, and reporting. It works to ensure that human rights principles are embedded within Somalia’s legal and institutional frameworks, with special attention to vulnerable groups such as women and children. The department plays a critical role in promoting access to justice for marginalized populations and advocating for the integration of human rights in law enforcement and judicial practices.
The Human Rights Department also handles oversight and reporting obligations, compiling data and preparing national human rights reports submitted to international bodies. It supports the government’s compliance with global human rights instruments and treaties.
