Mandate of the Ministry Of Justice, FGS

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is a Federal Government of Somalia ministerial entity, headed by the Minister of Justice who reports directly to the Prime Minister. The statutory mandate of the Ministry is the lead administrator of Justice in Somalia and therefore administers legal Affairs, Legal Drafting, correctional services/custodial-corps, providing legal advisory services to the government and the community, as well as supporting the legal framework for good governance, addressing the public grievances on justice services and also analyzing justice issues.

Overview and Role of the Ministry Are Followings, But Not Limited To:

  1. Being a connection and coordinate the executive, the legislation and judiciary branches in the government as per the constitution designate to;
  2. Coordination of justice sector institutions and its related law enforcement agencies to ensuring citizens have access to fair and affordable justice (realization of the ministry ‘s vision, access to justice for all);
  3. Coordinate and develop the corrections and custodial corps; to ensure safety, health, hygiene, social re-integration of the inmates;
  4. Ensuring key priority laws in the legal framework, including on the reorganization of the judiciary, law reforms, legal development are aligned with the constitution and international standards;
  5. Ensuring justice institutions start to address the key grievances and injustices of Somalis throughout ensuring the institutional capacity development of the justice sector to improve their organization and functioning;
  6. Providing legal advice and legal drafting to the government ministries, agencies in line with constitution and international standards;
  7. Renovating, standardizing, and modernizing offices, administration and staff of the ministry; safeguarding the ministerial assets;
  8. Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of policies, strategies and programmes of justice sector in close collaboration with the justice and law enforcement agencies;
  9. Efforts in order to promote public rights awareness level, and facilitate the community access to justice;
  10. Organizing affairs related to the juvenile violations from the law in the juvenile rehabilitation centers, and organizing the affairs related to the legal aids;
  11. Organizing and issuing official license to the advocates, public notary and legal practitioners;
  12. Proposing laws and the members of different commissions relating the judiciary branch of the government, such as judiciary services commission, constitutional court, public prosecution services office, anti-corruption commission, and establishment of judiciary training institute;
  13. Promoting cooperation between national, regional and international institutions in charge of law enforcement, public order and correctional services;
