National Legal Aid Policy Consultation

Considering the urgent need to improve the Rule of Law in Somalia and execute the constitutionally mandatory duties to provide access to justice for all Somali citizens, the Ministry of Justice had drafted National Legal Aid Policy Framework to promote legal aid service provision for the vulnerable people.

The national legal aid policy consultation, which was held between 14-15 Feb 2016, was intended to gather the inputs of the relevant stakeholders of the policy. The participants include Justice Institutions of federal member states, Ministry of Interior, Police, custodial corps, courts as well as Civil Society Organization and legal aid providers.

The consultation meeting, which was opened by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Dr Ismail Jumale, is expected to put and comment the drafted Legal aid policy, before submitting to the council of Ministries in March.
